Dakar Race 2012: Argentina, Chile, Peru

We have been watching the Dakar Race for years, from the time it was held in Africa. After enjoying the New Year's Eve Concert in Vienna every year, we know that in a few days, the famous race would start! I particularly enjoyed watching the colourful dresses worn by women along the route in Africa, as I remembered the couple of months we spent in South Africa before we got married.

I was sorry when the organizers of the Dakar were forced to change continent, but happy when I discovered they would be going to South America instead! They first went to Argentina and Chile and, although I have been to both countries before, I had never realized that the scenery could be so African-like with so many sand dunes! Then this year I was surprised when I found out they would be going to Peru, which is where I originally come from! The final stage would not be in Dakar (Senegal), but in my own home town: Lima!
The race is supposed to end tomorrow, so I wanted to write a hub about it, as a kind of tribute, not only to my country, but also to all the racers and people who were involved in the organization and running of it. I could not be there, of course, but I sure followed it on television and could not help but think of the things I have decided to include as pictures on in this hub instead! Once this year's race is over I will just have to hope that it is held in the land of the Incas again next year!
