I have always like toucans, for their brightly colored beaks and also because they are found in my homecountry Peru, as well as many other Central and South American countries.

Toucans are a well known rainforest animal and they are one of the noisiest too, as they can be easily heard from many hundreds of metres away!

Toucans have a black body, white neck and chest and a striking plumage. What distinguishes them though is their long and colorful beak, which can grow up to 18 cm in length and have a color ranging from yellow-orange to reddish orange.

Toucans seem to be liked by advertising companies too, as a toucan features in famous American brands, like Kellong’s Fruit Loops and the Irish Guiness Beer!

Toucans eat mainly fruits, nuts and berries, but also insects and small lizards. During the mating season toucans like to play catch by tossing berries from one to the other with their beaks. 

These birds seem to have inspired many, not only me, as one can find songs and poems, as well as a big selection of goods, like stuffed animals, mobiles, mugs, mouse pads. T-shirts, jewelry, wood  and ceramic ornaments!
